Embracing the Unconventional: The Artistic Journey Behind the modern abstract painting "Geometric Expression of Color"

Art is more than a mere display of skill—it is a journey of self-discovery, rebellion, and liberation. As an artist, my goal is to continually push the boundaries of my creativity and explore new horizons. My recent modern abstract painting "Geometric Expression of Color", embodies this quest for innovation and self-expression.

The Genesis of the modern abstract painting "Geometric Expression of Color"

The journey of creating "Geometric Expression of Color" began with an airbrush design on a gesso board—a medium known for its smooth, absorbent surface, ideal for intricate details and bold colors. My initial intent was to craft a piece that combined the precise, often cold aesthetics of biomechanical art with the vibrant, emotional qualities of abstract portraiture. The result was a composition that fused the mechanical and the human, the structured and the fluid.

The airbrush work laid the foundation with its soft gradients and fluid lines, creating a surreal backdrop. I then introduced an array of colorful wood pieces into the painting. These fragments of wood did not merely add physical texture but also disrupted the smoothness of the gesso board, offering a tactile and visual contrast that enriched the overall composition. This blend of materials was meant to symbolize the intersection of the organic and the synthetic, the traditional and the modern.

The Challenge of Adding Complexity

As the painting progressed, I sought to deepen its complexity. I introduced new elements and sections that gave the work a more intricate and biomechanical surreal quality. These additions were not arbitrary but carefully designed to enhance the painting's emotional impact. The interplay between the mechanical elements and the fluid abstract portraiture aimed to create a dialogue between contrasting artistic languages.

However, as I added these layers, I felt a lingering sense that something was still missing. My artistic instincts urged me to continue painting—to break some rules and explore new possibilities. This desire to rebel and innovate is a core aspect of my creative process. Art, for me, is a realm where I can defy expectations, challenge norms, and ultimately, find a sense of liberation.

The Rebellion of Art

Throughout my life, rules have been a constant presence. As a young man, I grappled with the constraints of societal expectations and institutional regulations. My time in the service only amplified this sense of rigidity. Every action, every decision was governed by a set of rules, often with layers of additional constraints. This strict adherence to rules, while necessary in many contexts, often felt stifling and limiting.

Creating art offers a sanctuary from this rigidity. It is the one space where I can defy conventions, break free from constraints, and fully express myself. In the realm of art, there are no rules to follow—only possibilities to explore. This freedom allows me to experiment with different techniques, materials, and styles, forging a path that is uniquely my own.

The Role of Technique in Expression

In "Geometric Expression of Color", my experimentation with techniques played a crucial role in shaping the final outcome. One of my favorite methods is adding splatters of paint to my works. These splatters introduce an element of spontaneity and chaos that contrasts with the more controlled aspects of my painting. They infuse the piece with energy and unpredictability, contributing to its overall character.

Each technique I employ—whether it is splattering paint, using palette knives, or incorporating textured materials—serves a specific purpose and conveys a distinct emotion. The palette knife, for instance, allows me to create areas of impasto —thick, textured paint that catches the light and draws the viewer’s eye. These highlights add depth and dimension, making certain areas of the painting stand out.

Sometimes, I return to a piece after a day or two, bringing a fresh perspective and new emotional layers to the work. This process of revisiting and reworking allows me to infuse the painting with evolving feelings and ideas, ensuring that each piece remains dynamic.

The Journey of Self-Expression

The process of creating "Geometric Expression of Color" has been a journey of both artistic and personal growth. It has allowed me to explore new techniques, experiment with unconventional materials, and most importantly, express myself in a way that defies the constraints I’ve encountered throughout my life.

Art is not just about creating aesthetically pleasing images; it is about exploring the depths of one's own creativity and challenging oneself to grow. Each piece is a reflection of this ongoing journey—a testament to the power of art to transcend limitations and offer a space of freedom and self-discovery.

In the end, "Geometric Expression of Color" is more than just a painting. It is a manifestation of my desire to break free from constraints, to rebel against the rules, and to embrace the chaos and beauty of creativity. It is a celebration of the power of art to transform and liberate, allowing me to express myself in ways that go beyond the ordinary. Through this work, I invite viewers to join me on this journey of exploration and self-expression, to find their own liberation in the realm of art.
